VR Local Anesthesia Trainer

NYU COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY

A virtual reality training system for dental local anesthesia, built as two modules: a syringe assembly trainer covering safe preparation technique, and IANB-30 — an Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block module for one of the most technique-sensitive procedures in dental education. Students practice in headset while the system captures step timing, completion, and critical errors, generating automated assessment reports faculty use for curriculum decisions. Published in peer-reviewed literature, featured as a Meta for Work case study, and adopted by dental programs beyond NYU.

VR Patient Communication Trainer

NYU RORY MEYERS COLLEGE OF NURSING

A virtual reality simulation training nursing students to navigate one of the hardest conversations in maternal care: communicating with a patient experiencing postpartum depression. The system exists in two versions — a structured scenario built with faculty, and an AI-driven version where the patient responds dynamically through a large language model, so no two conversations follow a predetermined script. Rather than drilling a manual procedure, the simulation develops clinical empathy and therapeutic communication — skills that are difficult to teach at scale and risky to practice for the first time on real patients.

A studio grounded in research, built for production.

Digital Ubiquities (UBQT) is a specialized engineering studio focused on immersive training systems for higher education — combining simulation design, spatial computing, and backend data infrastructure under one roof.

The studio's practice grew out of academic research culture: our work is published in peer-reviewed literature, deployed in active curricula, and shaped by years of teaching interactive technology at NYU and the Rubin Museum of Art. Studio members have juried and won awards at national venues including SIGGRAPH, AWE, MIT Reality Hack, and Snap hackathons.

Clients and collaborators include NYU College of Dentistry, NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, and brand experience programs for Pfizer, Otsuka, Janssen, Exact Sciences, and Cartier.
